Importer Exporter Code

The Importer -Exporter Code (IEC) is a key business identification number which is mandatory for Exports or Imports. No person shall make any import or export except under an IEC Number granted by the DGFT. In case of import or export of services or technology, the IEC shall be required only when the service or technology provider is taking benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy or is dealing with specified services or technologies

Import Export Code (IEC) once gave can be utilized by the entity all through its existence. Though an IEC is a permanent code, with effect from 2021 annual updation is required.

On the basis of IEC registration businesses can enjoy several benefits given by Export Promotion Council, DGFT, and Customs.

Registration and Documents

Required Documents

  • Individual’s or Firm’s or Company’s copy of PAN Card.
  • Individual’s voter id or Aadhar card or passport copy.
  • Individual’s or company’s or firm’s cancel cheque copies of current bank accounts.
  • Copy of Rent Agreement or Electricity Bill Copy of the premise.
  • A self-addressed envelope for delivery of IEC certificate by registered post.

Registration Process

  • Visit the DGFT website and register
  • Fill the application form (ANF 2A format), upload the required documents, pay the required fees and click on the ‘Submit and Generate IEC Certificate’ button.
  • The IEC code will be generated by the DGFT. You can take a printout of your certificate once the IEC code is generated.

Renewal of IEC

The Due date to Renew the Import Export Code is April to June; It means the IEC holder must take steps to update their e-IEC at the beginning of the financial year. The last date of filing the IEC Renewal would be 30th June. IEC updation is an online process and can be completed with the use of DSC or Aadhaar based OTP for authentication.
